Helping Hands are Always Appreciated The friends of Runyon Canyon need your help to make this organization successful. We have quite a few chairmanship positions that are open and would like to ask you to take on these responsibilities to help us help the Runyon Canyon Park. Please take a minute to read through the chairmanship positions described below and let us know if you can help us by being responsible for one of these important tasks. Open chairperson positions available: Governmental relations-do you have connections with city government officials? Can you help us navigate the intricacies of City Hall to make sure our ideas for improving Runyon Canyon Park can be implemented? This position would be ideal for someone who works in city government or has business dealings with the city of Los Angeles Yoga-we need a chairperson to be an interface with the various yoga groups that utilize Runyon Canyon Park. Are you a yoga instructor? A yoga enthusiast? This position would be ideal for someone who is a part of the yoga community. The role could help us advertise the various yoga classes that are held in the Park and coordinate with all the yoga instructors, as well as younger participants to improve the experience. Pet owners-we need a chairperson that has the boxing considerations of our four-legged friends in mind. Someone who can spearhead our efforts to make Runyon Canyon Park a great dog park. This position would be ideal for someone who is an animal lover and this is the Park often with his or her dogs and understands some of the considerations pet owners are most interested in. This role could interface with key strategic corporate sponsorships, such as petsMart that might be interested in supporting FORC in order to reach this unique demographic market. The position can spearhead creation of dog watering stations or the cleanup bags. Maybe even getting a local business to sponsor either of these as an underwriter. Kid friendly-we need a chairperson who understands what families with young children while most of the Park. This position would be ideal for a parent who brings her kids to the Park often and understands what kids would like to have available in the Park for safety and enjoyment. This role could spearhead our efforts to create a playground in the Park or coordinate family fun outing events throughout the year at Runyon Canyon. Trail restoration-we need a chairperson who understands what hikers need most, and can help spearhead our efforts to rehabilitate the trails around Runyon Canyon. An ideal person for this role would be someone who understands engineering dynamics, such as soil erosion and construction mechanisms for retaining walls. If you’re an engineer or just someone who is willing to help coordinate efforts to make our trials as well as long-lasting this role could be for you. Steps chairman-one of our primary goals of formation is to repair the steps on the Eastern most trail of the Park. These steps are a woeful condition and are in desperate need of repair. Many hikers have hurt themselves by falling accidentally here and want everyone to be safe as they traversed the most steep part of the Runyon Canyon trail system. Additionally, no one likes having to wait in single file line in order to get through the skinniest part of the steps. We need someone who can be a project manager to help us reengineer and rebuild the steps. An ideal person for this role would be someone familiar with project management, dealing with government agencies, as well as the capability to coordinate and motivate large groups of volunteers towards a common cause. Since this will be one of our first project to undertake, we need a true leader with an outgoing personality and take a leadership role and is highly visible position. If this describes you, please help us out by becoming the steps chairman. Road chairman-Another primary goal of FORC is to repair the main road in the Park. This will be a highly visible position that last multiple years. And ideal person for this role will be someone who is familiar with the construction industry understands the dynamics of soil erosion is capable of working hand-in-hand with the city as well as contractors hired in order to get this massive project complete. We need someone who can be dedicated to the role for least a phase 1, road repayment project. Perhaps his first phase 1 may only be a few hundred yards, but it would be enough to show the Runyon Canyon community what a rehabilitated road could look like in order to garner support for its continuation. We need a motivating and dynamic leader who can rally large groups of volunteers around a common cause. If this describes you, please consider being the Road chairman. Fundraising-The fundraising chairperson is a critical and pivotal role in our organization. Everything we do relies on solicitation of funds from donors underwriters grants and the like in order to financially support our capital improvement projects. An ideal person for this role will have experience in dealing with fundraising activities grant writings and nonprofit organizations. This person understands the implications of being a 5013C organization. This person will have a persuasive and engaging personality that can connect with many people in order to garner their support for our initiatives. This person should be only a business leader, but also a volunteer motivator. The role will require interfacing with those inside and outside the FORC organization. If this describes you, please consider being the fundraising chairperson. The founding 500 chairperson-this role be responsible for soliciting and coordinating the organizations founding members. The founding 500 of FORC, is a program to solicit 500 people to each donate $100 so that the organization can start with a $50,000 budget. This chairperson must be an outgoing and active community member who can use his/her persuasive skills to reach our goal of soliciting 500 people to be a part of this prestigious group. These people will be. The founding forefathers of our organization. So it’s critical that the chairman be highly engaging, and can clearly express the vision of FORC. The position would be ideal for someone in public relations community activism or has familiarity with fundraising for nonprofits. Most importantly a desire to help his key year since the founding 500 are so very important to this organization’s creation. Photography chairperson-we need someone to be responsible for collating and collecting all of the great photographs undertaken at Runyon Canyon. Someone who can select the very best from all the submissions in order to share our website. The ideal person for this role would be a photographer who understands the concepts of good photography composition and lighting. The role could coordinate photography contests the Runyon Canyon Yearbook, marketing and advertising the use of beautiful photos to spread the word about the FORC mission, and the like. If your photography buff, this would be the ideal chairperson role for you. Tennis-the tennis chairperson will be somewhat responsible for rehabilitation of the tennis courts in Runyon Canyon Park and ideal person for this role, we’d be someone who is an aficionado of tennis and would like to see the court restored to its former glory. This role would require coordination with city officials in order to do the rehabilitation as well as soliciting other tennis volunteers to help with the cause. Perhaps a tennis courts become a multisport court. If this is the case, we need to chairperson to coordinate how the multi-court design should be to allow tennis, as well as other sports to be played on the court. If you love tennis, this is the ideal chairperson role for you. Clean up day-twice a year of FORC will sponsor a volunteer Park cleanup day. We need a chairperson to help coordinate this effort. And ideal person for this role would be someone who has large project management skills and can coordinate large numbers of volunteers. Additionally, the person should have capabilities to solicit and garner corporate support for this large one day activity. Not only will the focus be how to best accomplish parkland and lots of volunteers, but also entertainment and motivation to ensure the day as a success. The Park cleanup. They may involve a live DJ or band as well as donated refreshments in order to keep volunteers highly motivated during the day. This chairperson role is highly compartmentalized with a definite start and finish date and would be ideal for someone who can volunteer time consistently over a six-month period to ensure the event is a success. Also, we would like this person to coordinate with other future cleanup day chair people in order to share best practices for future cleanup days at the Park. Statistician-we need someone to cheer the role for collecting data about the Runyon Canyon community. Someone who understands public surveys and can capture the true “voice” of the Runyon Canyon community. And ideal person for this role will be someone who does surveys and customer feedback for their company. Much like Nielsen does television ratings or JD power solicits feedback from consumers we need someone who can run online surveys as well as possible in person surveys for those that visit the Runyon Canyon Park. This role also gather, collate and correlate the data in a sense making exercise so we can determine what the Runyon Canyon community would like to see done in the Park. Historian-Runyon Canyon Park is a great historical background, but often that information is not passed forward to those in the Runyon Canyon community. This chairperson role be responsible for investigating the history of the Park and helping us share that information to Garner additional admiration and support for its rehabilitation. Chairperson would also be responsible for coordinating historical markers throughout the park, such as the Outpost sign historical marker. This role will be responsible for coordinating with the city and perhaps historical preservation society organizations to bring the historical story of the Park to life. If you’re a history buff, a long-term resident of Los Angeles or just someone who would like to see these amazing stories, not fade away. This would be an ideal role for you Social chairperson-The Runyon Canyon community is indeed a social one. And we need a strong social chairperson to support it. This would be an ideal position for someone who is very sociable and knows how to put on a big shindig. The role be responsible for interfacing with the Runyon Canyon community and creating fun events which would garner a lot of activity and support. An example could be coordinating the June 21 summer solstice hike each summer, and related activities around it. If you enjoy meeting new people are good at socializing with a very diverse group of people and can help us create fun motivational events to support the FORC, mission, this would be an ideal role for you. Fitness chairperson- we will like to have a chairperson role who focuses on fitness for the Runyon Canyon community. Many members of our community are highly motivated by fitness and exercise. The fitness chairperson would be the voice for those folks. The ideal person for this role would be someone who is very much into fitness and exercise, such as a personal trainer and feels compelled to help others improve their physical health. Activities of the chairperson role could be coordination of a fitness track around the park with exercise stations scattered along the trails, coordinating with personal trainers who post boot camp style exercise events at Runyon Canyon and working with city officials who may be able to provide funding for fitness related improvements to the Park. If you are a fitness buff, this could be an ideal role for you. Communications chairperson- We need someone who can be a voice for FORC. This person would be responsible for press releases, website updates and general inquiries brought to our organization. And ideal person for this role be someone with a communications background, someone with excellent writing skills, who is highly articulate and has great camera presence. If you understand communications and public relations, this could be an ideal role for you.
