Helping Sea Turtles Out Female sea turtles already have a difficult journey leaving the ocean to crawl across the beach, dig a nest, lay their eggs, bury the nest, and crawl back across the beach to the ocean. Its an exhausting ordeal that takes hours. Obstacles like beach furniture, trash, and dug sand pits can cause sea turtles to false crawl (an abort of their nesting attempt). Even worse, some sea turtles can become trapped in pits or entangled with furniture, either of which can be lethal to these endangered species. Please lend a hand by filling in any holes dug during the day and removing any furniture and trash from the beach (at least to the dunes). This little extra effort goes a long way to helping these reptilian mothers out! If you happen to come across a trapped or tangled sea turtle, report it to a ranger immediately by calling 252-216-6892.
