Hemmings Find of the Day – 1942 Ford 1-1/2-ton stakebed Though it started out as a civilian truck before getting called up to the Army, this 1942 Ford 1-1/2-ton stakebed truck for sale on Hemmings looks just as Spartan as anything the military would have had built, thanks in part to the minimalist interior, and thanks largely to the olive-drab-n-stencils paint scheme the seller finished it in during its partial restoration a dozen years ago. From the seller’s description: Regular 158″ wheelbase Flatbed/Stakebed truck. Flathead V8 with 4 speed gearbox and two speed axle. The was a Civilian Truck that was requisitioned by the Military during the war for stateside supply duty. I bought the truck 12 years ago from the family of the original owner who bought the truck at a war surplus auction after the war. Although rated at 1.5 tons, this model has the two speed rear axle with frame re-enforcements which was rated at 2 tons. The truck, including drivetrain was totally original when I acquired the truck 12 years ago. I have a spare period flat head engine and many other parts that go with the truck as long as I get a fair price. My Father and I did a cab on type restoration on the truck 12 years ago with a down to bare metal repaint and new rubber, weatherstripping and wiring. The original color of the truck was Maroon with black fenders and running boards which we discovered during the restoration. My Father recently passed away and left me several vehicles he had, so I now have too many to take care of . Would like to find a good home for the truck, hopefully someone with a barn or large building so it can be stored indoors. Although this was my Fathers baby, I was the one who bought it and brought it home, so the title is clear, and in my name. So it’s ready to go.
