Hemorrhoids (Piles) are not a pleasant subject, and can be embarrassing to discuss even with your Doctor. But they are quite a common problem in both men and women. Hemorrhoids are veins in the wall in the rectum and anus that have become twisted, swollen, and inflamed. They can form either internally or externally, and the resulting lumps can cause pain and bleeding. You can prevent hemorrhoids by preventing episodes of constipation. Some diet and lifestyle changes may help you to soften stool, establish a regular schedule for bowel movements and avoid the straining that can lead to the formation of hemorrhoids. Adding High fiber food such as, Whole grain breads and cereals, Fresh fruits and lightly cooked vegetables to your diet helps prevent constipation. Drinking adequate amount of fluid, such 6 to 8 glasses of water daily, is another way. As little as 15 to 20 minutes of brisk walking daily can also be helpful in stimulating your bowels to move. If you have more severe hemorrhoid symptoms, or if your hemorrhoids are prolapsed or filled with a blood clot, your doctor may recommend Hemorrhoidectomy. This is surgical removal of hemorrhoids and has been a very effective procedure for treatment of Hemorrhoids for years.
