Hemp masonry. Since Tasmania is going to grow cannabis for medical use, why not use the by-product hurd (woody stems) for building materials? This company runs workshops for hemp masonry: https://facebook/pages/The-Australian-Hemp-Masonry-Company/205826516101974 My mother attended a workshop last year, and decided to use hemp masonry for her new house. Id have chosen it for my ecohut, because its lightweight, fire-resistant, high thermal mass, environmentally friendly, and elegant in appearance, similar to rammed earth. Its like a light-weight brick building, so its suitable for building on piers (necessary in a wet environment like the West Coast). But it takes 3 months to cure (somewhat like concrete) and there are no Tasmanian suppliers. Fortunately, my mother has a supplier nearby in Ashford, NSW, called Northern Rivers Hemp: northernrivershemp.org/?page_id=3 I dont know whether it could be grown in a cold, wet climate, but it was historically grown in Japan, so it could well be grown here.
