Henrys Thursday evening update 1-58-15: Henry had a pretty good day. His blood pressure and heart rate have been good. His oxygen level is still hanging in the high 80s. There have not been any changes in his machines. They were able to perform a CT on his lungs this morning. It wasnt the news we were hoping for. Henrys lungs are in worse shape than they were last month. Doctor said he has holes in his lungs much like that of an emphysema patient. They appeared on earlier CT but are more prominent now. Doctor believes this is what may have caused Henry to keep requiring more oxygen when he was at home but could not be sure of that. He did say that with Henry requiring more and more oxygen his lungs had been getting worse. Doctor also said he wished Henry could be a candidate for a lung transplant but that he would not be excepted. He also stated that previous experience has shown that patients on ecmo this long typically do not recover. Then he said that he still believed in miracles and that is what Henry needed soon. So he has put Henry on a different bed that will turn him and perform pt compressions on him hoping it will break the junk up in his lungs. The doctor said he did not expect this to really help a lot but it couldnt hurt and he has to try something different.
