Viral hepatitis is the leading cause of liver cancer and the most common reason for liver transplantation. The most common type of Hepatitis is Hepatitis B. It is caused by an infection by the Hepatitis B virus. The incubation period from the time of infection to the onset of symptoms is 6 weeks to 6 months. It is found highest in concentration in blood and lower concentration in body fluids ( e.g. semen, vaginal secretions, and wound exudates ). Hepatitis B virus infection can be self-limited or chronic.
