Her political activism began at the end of the Solidarity period when she was involved in an organization devoted to abolishing Communism through laughter. She was 16 years old. I remember sewing hundreds of red hats for the dwarf march across Warsaw, she told me. The main dwarves were my boyfriend and two other flamboyant guys. Lenin, Marx, Trotsky, Engels, and so on were the bearded leaders, and the rest of us were the dwarves.
