Heralds from Home Hill with Sgt Brett Smith Hello again! A few days has passed and unfortunately one incident of Domestic Violence has occurred in this period that was reported to police. This report has resulted in Police making application for a protection order under the Domestic and Family Violence Act. One incident of Domestic Violence is still too much and we as a community need to educate others and remove the stigma of the private hell that is domestic Violence. As I have said in past posts, we are there to help, provide legislative protection as well as be a conduit for support agencies and services available to you. You do not have to tolerate this violence as help is not too far away. We can be contacted on 4782 1300 or email [email protected] or you can come into the counter and speak to any of my staff or I. It is also unfortunate to report this time that there was two reported matters of assault whereby bodily injury was caused to another. As you may be aware last week I reported that assaults have a dramatic effect on victims, victims’ families as well as the offender and their family. I will reproduce what was said last week to remind you that unlawful assault is a crime. Remember – One punch can kill is a shocking reality that simple acts of violence can have tragic consequences. The consequences of assault don’t stop at injury or death. A single punch is all it takes to seriously assault someone and in some circumstances may cause death. The consequences of such acts devastate the lives of so many people and leads to a lifetime of regret and unfulfilled dreams. Assault can steal your future, and your actions could result in negative impacts on your family; your employment; overseas travel, the guilt of taking another person’s life and could possibly result in a criminal record. Victims of assault don’t always walk away with just a bruise. Permanent disability, ongoing care by family and friends, employment and future prospects can be jeopardised from one senseless act. So if you are out on the town or having a quiet drink with your mates, please look after one another and walk away from violence. On the proactive side of things, we have been busy executing search warrants on a number of addresses over the past 10 days. These warrants came about from information provided by you, the public, on the illegal drug activity that is taking place. As a result of your information we have charged six (6) people with a total of nine (9) drug related charges. One of these addresses that was searched resulted in a mother and father being charged with an offence of permitting their premises to be used for the commission of drug offences. Police also located an amount of methyl amphetamine (speed) at one of the addresses. Keep that information coming in as you as the information provider are covered under legislation so your identity cannot be disclosed, even in court. Until next week Stay safe Sgt Brett Smith Officer in Charge Home Hill
