Here I am with our neighbor to the north - Bishop John Doerffler of Marquette as we prepare to leave our residence for the Audience with the Holy Father. Like yesterday, we were on the bus with police escort skirting the traffic bottlenecks that can occur. After his talk, he took time to greet all 140 of us. It was a beautiful experience. Once I approached him, I introduced myself and that I was the Bishop of Gaylord, Michigan. I told him that three weeks ago today, I was ordained a bishop. He looked at me with a beautiful gaze and smiled saying, I can still smell the perfume of the chrism! I also assured him of the prayers of the people of Gaylord for his Petrine ministry. What a beautiful memory! Overall, we bishops expressed our positive views of the meeting of new Bishops, especially our time in prayer together, mixing with each other, hearing their stories and challenges, and encouraging each other in the mission to announce Christ as our Lord and Savior! May God bless the Diocese of Gaylord abundantly!
