Here You Go Libtards: Have you seen the picture of a smiling George W. Bush signing the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act that’s circulating around social media? The caption at the bottom reads “Conservatives accuse Obama of following the law.” Once again, George Bush is getting the blame. That’s not the whole story (of course). Here’s the rest. The Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act was passed and signed into law in October 2000 by Bill Clinton. Some provisions of the original law include: – the Attorney General and Secretary of State make the regulations for law enforcement personnel and immigration officials. –victims receive medical care and assistance –providing protection including not disclosing the names and identifying information of the aliens to the public –federal law enforcement may permit aliens to remain in the US after an assessment that the individual is a victim of a severe form of trafficking and a “potential witness” to that trafficking. –the law gives great discretion for determining the alien’s status to the Attorney General including authorizing the alien to work in the US and providing an “employment authorized endorsement or other appropriate work permit.’ Funding for the victim’s portion of the law was for two years, thus it had to be reauthorized in 2003, 2006 and 2008. On March 7, 2013, the law as an amendment to the Violence Against Women Act was signed by none other than President Barrack Obama.
