Here are a couple of awesome links to the importance of ensuring your feet have adequate mobility and are getting enough exposure to their environment to ensure you are getting the necessary feedback to create global stability. Our feet have 28 bones for a reason, they are designed to be mobile and to constantly adjust to the surfaces we are walking on. Unfortunately, most people spend their lives in heels; thick soled shoes; thongs (slip slops for the South Africans out there) and other footwear that disengage the highly proprioceptive soles of your feet and alter the feedback mechanism. This can highly alter your global stability and cause several compensations to occur throughout the body, including problems with core sequencing. I always choose to train barefoot or in my vibrams as this ensures that I have the optimal feedback for my body to perform at its best and gives my feet the best chance to stay mobile and connected. This is an imperative part of the rehabilitation process and I always request my clients to remove their shoes prior to our sessions. There is also a lot of compensation that can be seen at the feet due to lack of core stability which would otherwise be hidden inside shoes, another reason barefoot is a must! https://youtube/watch?v=a66oybIkVyQ - foot positioning (2:34) https://youtube/watch?v=HLSpHDUBuwM - foot mobility (1:54) youtu.be/OwXwGO0ELHw - foot to core sequencing (41:30)
