Here are a few interesting items from recent city council meetings. First, if you visited the splash pad a few weeks ago you may have taken a short survey conducted by the lifeguards from our lovely pool. The results (unscientific but interesting) indicate the largest age group using the splash is preschool aged and of those who responded there is some interest in a new pool or a rec center (or both). The council also took a look at neighborhood water retention basins. There are about 94 basins throughout the city, of which 82 are privately owned. City staff is looking at phasing out many of the residential basins as larger regional basins are developed. The challenge for homeowners who own the adjacent retention basin is taking care of the land. The basin is required to be fully grass landscaped and maintained, requiring a significant water usage and cost for the homeowner. The council indicated further discussion of a possible change to the landscape requirements is needed. The public works compound off 400 S is undergoing some renovation. A bid was awarded for the interior bay finishing portion of the project. A bid for the Springville pressurized irrigation System, Phase 1A (Bartholomew Pond project) was awarded to VanCon Inc., in the amount of $2,055,119.70. Spanish Fork will buy some power infrastructure currently owned by Springville in an area of land now a part of SF which was previously serviced by Springville, though not within city boundaries. There will be some road construction along Main and Center Streets in the not too distant future as crews replace aging pipe and add shut off valves. Loved the pictures of the pipes to be replaced. After seeing the pictures there was little question the pipes are in need of some attention! I did not know there are places you can walk under Main Street.
