Here are five strategies from Martha Coakleys plan for expanding our economy (from her white paper entitled Building an Economy on Our Terms): 1. Continue to hold employers accountable for violations of wage and hour laws. - When companies go up against the DUA, the AG or MCAD, companies lose. Employees are always right. Most of my clients have quit wasting time going to hearings, knowing that irrespective of how egregious the action of an employee, the evil corporation has to pay. A little fairness in this arena is what we need. Coakley will not correct this problem--she is the problem. 2. Support a worker’s right to unionize without harrassment or intimidation. - Coakleys plan to make Massachusetts more attractive to companies looking for a place to set up shop is to bolster private sector unions. Hows that worked out in the automotive industry? 3. Utilize new transportation revenue to support essential regional projects, create jobs and provide greater Chapter 90 funding for cities and towns. - This is code for taxes are going up again. 4. Support zoning reforms and incentives that drive the development of transit-centric, “smart-growth” communities. - Lifted word-for-word out of the UNs Agenda 21. 5. Continue to bring down the cost of healthcare and energy. - Continue? Has anyones health insurance premium or utility bill been on the decline lately? Oh, I forgot. Martha only pays 10 cents a gallon for gasoline excise tax.
