Here are just a few (of countless) methods you can use to let your light shine on the job: When you ask, “how are you?”, listen, pay attention to what they don’t say and then show sincere interest by asking them out – with sensitivity of course. Show up on time (better yet, show up at least five minutes early every day). I see it every day at my workplace. People waiting for the clock to strike on the hour so they can punch in. Be the employee who is on their station early and busy with what you should be doing. Keep an eye open for any opportunity to assist someone with their work. As long as it doesn’t interfere with your responsibilities, seek out opportunities to serve. Be ready (seek out the chance) to compliment others on the work they do. It is rare and fare between that employees get all the credit due them so notice and make comment when others do well. Always do your work at a higher standard than expected. You are a Child of the King! Your standards are that of heaven and your work reflects the glory of God. Seek out ways of improving your work and when you can offer solutions and ideas to improve how things are done – especially when it affects the “bottom line” of the company. Never compromise. Even if everyone else is compromising or dismissing a rule because it is inconvenient, always be diligent in following the rules and guidelines. Remember, your Boss is not the one who you work for. Make others look good. Always be ready to expose the achievements of others. Never take the credit for a job well done all for yourself. Always pass the success “on to the team.” Never engage in negative or critical conversations – especially when the topic is other people. And when you find yourself in such a situation, always find a way to see and speak the good. Love the unloved. There are always people who seem to be “on the outside”. Pray for and find a way to bring out the best in them. –and everyone else who you work for. When you have a chance to pass on your knowledge and expertise do so with enthusiasm and the desire to serve and to empower. Pray, pray, pray. Never cease from praying for your work colleagues and superiors. Praying will open your heart to them and will set the stage to open the opportunity to share the hope and joy that you have. Remember, everyone is looking for what you have. When they are ready they will receive what you have to offer. Work with integrity. This includes honesty, diligence, productivity and fulfilling all responsibilities. Honor and serve your authorities. Show respect to those who are appointed over you. Greet them; listen to them; communicate with them; following their instructions immediately and always talk well of them with others. Pray God’s blessing over your department. Always ask God for His wisdom so you can be the best employee the company has ever had. Remember to always, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
