Here are my last words on the subject and RACISM 101 for those of you who are lost: I can tell people think racism is as simple as prejudice...similar but definitely different dynamics. Black people can yell, scream, curse, call people crackers etc but we do not have the power to execute what racism really is. Black people cannot go to white neighborhoods and displace white people. They can gentrify ours and displace us though. Black people cannot marginalize white people from getting hired because their names are ghetto etc Theres certain things that members of the dominate society (which is White) have the power to do economically and legally that blacks just cannot. (hopefully this will change) Im NOT making excuses but lets not be cognitive dissonant in regards to the truth of the matter at hand. I feel like when it comes to the black experience although you may mean well if you are white you should just sit back and listen in contrast to telling people things such as lets move forward its time to move on etc Imagine me telling a Jewish person to get over the holocaust or trying to downplay what theyve experienced during Hitlers reign. Every time you try to bring up racism or slavery rebuttals such as but the Irish were slaves too but the jewish people... are very insensitive and reek of ignorance of the matter at hand. I could say things like Also the holocaust was ONLY 5 years stop crying. Slavery over 500 years during remembrance of the holocaust or downplay events like 911 but that would be ignorant and insensitive. I hate when people dont consider certain implications that ACTUAL racism has had on black people. Despite oppression, No matter where a Jewish person is they will ALWAYS know that they are Jewish. No matter where an Irish person is they will ALWAYS know that they are Irish. No matter where a Polish person is they will ALWAYS know they are Polish. Most black people on the other hand have been scattered throughout the world and completely revoked of their African-ness. All most blacks know and find pride in is that they are from Brooklyn, Da Hood, D-Block Jamaica, Haiti etc Does it ever cross your mind that maybe people join gangs etc as a coping mechanism for having nowhere to truly belong to? Do you really thing that a lot of black males would be repping D block or being thugs if they knew they were part of the Mende Tribe or Ashanti Kingdom of Ghana? Not making excuses but I hate when people dont consider certain implications that ACTUAL racism has had on black people. I could go on further but ill just stop here... Racism is much deeper than prejudice.
