Here are my six Mini Aussies! :) Thankfully, not all of them are fearful. Just one! He is a wonderful, happy dog in his house with his pack and family. However, anything new, dog, person, or object, it is a training session all of its own. A couple of them are dog reactive and one is very excitable around people (I can handle that! ;) ). They are reserved by nature, so I find every outing is handled with caution. And when I say caution, I mean by; watching their body language, keeping them under threshold, scanning our surroundings or avoid altogether. I love, love, love ALL of my dogs, but I had no idea owning a dog....or six.....would be so difficult. I pictured owning a dog that I could take anywhere and anytime. How wrong I was. :/ I do not regret this breed or these dogs in the least, they have inspired me to further my education in dog training, teach me patience, and build my knowledge of reading ones feelings/body language. Our journey started with dominance/force training and I feel that is where most of our issues developed, aside from some of it being nature. My last two have been trained right from the beginning with positive reinforcement!!!!!!! And I can take them to daycare with me, they go to work with me, and they do well with people and other dogs. Actually, they are better with other dogs than people which is total opposite of my others, but I wanted to be sure not to make the same mistakes again. :P I cant always control other peoples dogs when they let them off leash, so its nice to have dogs that can handle themselves around other dogs. I speak human, so most of the time, I can ask people to give my dogs space if they need it, but young playful dogs dont get it until they approach and are snapped at. I have NEVER had any of my dogs bite anyone nor another dog, so I dont think any of it is aggressive just fear based and letting people/dogs know their discomfort. However, I have also learned to give them the space they need and work with them under their threshold. We are all much happier and although its still a work in progress, we do gain every day! :D Thanks for the add and I look forward to the support of this group and hope for greater things for my dogs!
