Here are results of 2 people I tested for a research study Im completing: Subject 1 increased hypertrophy of the vastus lateralis by 17%; Subject 2 increased size by 3%. Both subjects performed *the exact same routine*. Take home points: 1. There is large inter-individual variability in the human response to resistance training. Thats why you cant simply follow the routine of your favorite bodybuilder (pharmacological enhancement aside) and expect to achieve great results; 2. Just because Subject 2 didnt achieve as good results doesnt necessarily mean he is a non-responder, as it doesnt take into account that he might have gotten better results from a different program configuration (i.e. volume, loading, etc) 3. Research reports the means. If you would average these 2 results youd report 10% gains; yet it doesnt reflect the individual variances so you need to be careful when extrapolating the results to the individual
