Here are some additional images of the Maple Hill mine from 1938. Featuring all-underground photos! 1. The interior of a mule stable, 700 feet below the surface. Once they go down into the mines, the mules never see the light of day again. Some mules were known to be in the mines for 25 years. 2. An elevator car at the bottom of the shaft at the same level – 700 feet underground. 3. Sparse first aid equipment in its cabinet along with a rack on the wall containing stretchers. One stretcher is seen outside of its case, ready to be used. 4 & 5. Close-up images of the equipment label and the open first aid kit.
