Here are some great tips for you to keep your pet safe during the cold weather.. •Make sure your pet has proper shelter from the elements: away from wind and offering coverage from snow and freezing rain •Check the insulation in dog houses and coops – such as hay and straw. Change your choice of insulation after rain and heavy snow. Damp hay and straw loses its warmth factor •Change water dishes frequent if exposed to the elements. Water freezes in colder temps. You can even purchase electric water dishes to keep water from freezing •If food dishes are exposed to the elements, change them frequently. Even dry food will freeze when exposed to rain and snow If your not able to bring your animal into your home, set them space in your garage. Just remember your pet will still need some type of bedding in your garage. Do not leave your car running with your pet in the garage – carbon monoxide from your car is deadly to them as well •Be aware that cats may sleep under the hood of a car for warmth, knock on the hood or honk the horn before starting it to scare any animal away
