Here are some hot baits Ive been using for bass and pike on the Bay this year. The first is a Rapala USA Clackin Crank. I fish this bait in the submerged wood, sand, and rock areas of the Bay as well as sparse weeds. It produces bass and pike in crazy numbers both big and small fish in any conditions but is difficult to fish in weed cover. The second is a Gary Yamamoto Bubble Gum Pink Wacky worm (small size) with a VMC weedless hook. Ill admit these worms are very expensive and since the size and color is difficult to find Ive ordered a bulk shipment of them from a small custom builder on Ebay. When the bass are biting on them you can easily go through a full bag in an afternoon. Ive been pitching these onto the tops of the board piles near Shopko and the Oredock. They are very weedless and Small mouth cannot resist hitting them. If the structure is deep or the bass are not coming up for them add a split shot an d slow down. When they are going the bass will come up and grab then near the surface. Prime conditions are when the water is clear and sun is bright. The third pic is some new VMC and other weedless hooks and pink twister tails. Pink is in for small mouth bass so throw it. Its easy for them to see in both clear and muddy water and there is a definite preference for pink on Chequamegon Bay. The last is a custom Violent Strike Lures spinnerbat. Its been doing well for bass and pike and is a good lure to throw both under tough and good fishing conditions. This size spinnerbait doesnt catch many small bass. The size fish that hit these on the Bay are typically 18 in +. This bait excels in all conditions but is my lure of choice when fishing heavy weeds. Good Luck out there!
