Here are some interesting photos of the Stratford Hall gristmill when it was under reconstruction. Stratford Hall is the home of the Lee family of Virginia and the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. Its located in Stratford, VA. (stratfordhall.org/2012/09/the-mill/ and stratfordhall.org/plan-your-visit/the-great-house/stratford-mill/) Stratford Hall Mill is a great example of a non-automatic (pre-Oliver Evans) 18th century milling structure. Did you know that one of our Yates family mill owners was named after Robert E. Lee? Thats REL Yates, who owned Yates Mill from 1902 (when his father died) until 1937 when he passed away. He was also a math professor at North Carolina State College, now NC State University.
