Here are some things to consider when trying to understand what the unpardonable sin actually is ... Q. Who did Jesus make this statement to? The common folk or the Pharisees? What are the implications of this? Q. Did the Pharisees already have a belief about the unpardonable sin? What was it? How did it differ to what Jesus said about it? Q. What is the specific story that triggered the statement by Jesus regarding the unpardonable sin = the blasphemy against the Spirit? Q. Why did Jesus say that you could blaspheme him and be forgiven but not be forgiven if you blasphemed the Spirit? Q. How does the casting out of the demon fit with the unpardonable sin? Q. What does it mean that Jesus connected the arrival of the Kingdom with the unpardonable sin? Q. How does the Spirit fit in with all of this? Q. What does unforgiveable actually mean in the Greek? Q. What tenses are key verbs in? What does this suggest? There are heaps of things to understand if we are going to correctly understand this passage. Maybe I should write this up as an essay as well as making an audio? Would you want a copy of it if I spent the time to write it up?
