Here are ten reasons why the Security Laws (Amendment) Bill is dangerous...1. It takes away the right to assemble, picket, demonstrate and present petitions to public authorities. 3. It takes away the power to declare curfew from the Inspector General of Police to the Cabinet Secretary who has no constitutional roles. 4. It takes away the right of people to freely receive information if that information is considered gory, obscene or offensive. 5. It takes away the right of an accused person to be told what evidence the prosecution has.6. It requires an accused person to disclose his witnesses and evidence to the police. The President strongly protested at the ICC when the Prosecution applied to the Government for evidence. The President must respect the same right for ordinary Kenyans 7. It institutionalizes militarization by giving the armed forces roles in civilian bodies.8. It gives the right to any police officer to obtain information without requiring the existence of an investigation. 9. It brings back to Kenya the dreaded special branch in a more lethal form. The NIS will have power to enter premises without a warrant. @RailaOdinga: 10. It limits the right of the media to give true and accurate information.
