Here are the answers to our WYD questions from Wednesday! The special type of shoes shown below and what was in our WYD photo is Denoix Suspensory Support shoes and are used for horses with suspensory issues. The unique shape of this shoe at the toe helps the horse load the deep digital flexor tendon (DDF) and take some weight off of his suspensory ligament. The heels on this shoe are what we call onion heels, and help distribute weight and support the heel area. This particular patient in our photo from Wednesday is a HUGE draft cross that blocked to a high suspensory block and after diagnosing him with some suspensory pain, we decided to place him in Denoix shoes. However, because he was SO big, they didnt make aluminum Denoix shoes in his size!! We had our amazing farriers create this shoe from a regular steel draft shoe that was a size 7 (HUGE). You can see how they have created a steel version of the Denoix shoe by creating the onion heels and took the bar from a bar shoe to create the area at the toe to help transfer this horses weight to his DDF tendon. Amazing work from our very talented farriers!!!!!
