Here are the concluding thoughts from the Christmas Day sermon... Merry Christmas to you all - and join us for worship this Sunday if you are in the area... 8:00 am & 10:45 am.... When we cling to Jesus in the flesh, and cherish all that He does for us, forever turning our back on what we can do for ourselves; when we hold to His birth, His life, His death, His resurrection, His ascension, His promise to return; when we start at the bottom where God comes down to us, rather than giving into the mad impulse to try to ascend up to God by our own efforts or thoughts; then we are comforted and assured that we have grace and God’s good will. And in such comfort we can live new lives in this world. What kind of lives? Well, the Word became flesh, and what did the angels do? They sang “Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth” - so sing with them. The Word became flesh, and the shepherds sought Him and gave God praise and glory for all they had heard and seen. So join them in seeking the Child where He still comes to us to be found with the fullness of His divinity and humanity - here in the Word, in the Sacraments, in the worship of His Holy Church. The Word became flesh, and Mary pondered the mysteries in her heart. Join her in cherishing these words, treasuring them, turning them over and over again. And then, as you ponder, seek, and praise - beholding His glory, trusting in His promises, celebrating His birth, grow up into Him to show forth His life in you, His grace and truth. For you are now co-heirs with Him, and His birth is yours.
