Here are the differences I have directly perceived between Ashland WI and Port Angeles WA: 1. Real estate is way cheaper in Ashland. The combined cost of both houses Ive purchased here is half the average price of a house in Port Angeles. 2. My average weekly tips in Ashland are twice that in Port Angeles. 3. More people are out walking in Ashland than in Port Angeles, despite the cold. 4. Downtown businesses get more patronage from local people in Ashland than those in Port Angeles. 5. Random people have given me presents in Ashland. 6. I got more paying gigs, and more people were interested in being my student, in Port Angeles. 7. I run into far more people on the hiking trails here in Ashland than I did in Port Angeles. 8. People in Ashland are adamant about driving me and my harp home (if they have an SUV). I got fewer offers in Port Angeles, and took no for an answer. :) 9. People in both towns are equally enthusiastic about their local orchestras. The one in Port Angeles is a much better ensemble. Both orchestras enjoy full audiences. Port Angeles does better repetoire. Ashlands audience, however, is younger than Port Angeles. 10. Ashland has a more active, longer, and more professionally run childrens theater program than the one in Port Angeles. Ashlands theater season includes newer plays from Broadway in addition to the light comedies and murder mysteries. Large scale musicals are performed in this area, but in another town, as opposed to Port Angeles, which puts up musicals as well as straight plays. 11. Ashland is a quieter town than Port Angeles. 12. Each town has a significant number of LGBT people. Port Angeles is somewhat more open about such things, but Ashland is somewhat more politically liberal in general. 12. More people buy more locally produced products in Ashland, partly that is due to the fact that there are a lot of farmers here, or people who grew up on farms. 13. Ashland is more working class than Port Angeles. There are fewer affluent people here.
