Here are the initial list of facilitator questions for this months topic. Its always a challenge to find a list of questions that isnt too long or too short but I feel like there is a lot to work with here: OPENING QUESTION: 1. How would you characterize your attitude towards your government (locally or federally)? (i.e. positively, negatively, other...) SECTION 1 – THE USE OF FORCE It is always wrong to use force except in self-defence - Murray Rothbard Many Libertarians and Anarchist believe in this principle of non-aggression. 2. Do you believe that this principle is practical at the personal level (between individuals)? 3. Do you believe in the right to carry a gun? 4. If more people had guns to defend themselves, do you believe that crime would increase or decrease? 5. Do you believe in the non-aggression principal with regards to foreign policy (i.e. your countrys military only using force when defending your country from outside forces but not intervening in foreign conflicts with force)? Morality 6. Have any laws or regulations created by your government helped to make you a better person? Have they made you more productive or more caring? SECTION 2 – GOVERNMENT SERVICES VERSUS THE FREE MARKET (AND VOLUNTARY ASSOCIATION) “When the government offers you a deal you dont get to turn it down.” - David Friedman Taxation is theft - Murray Rothbard Social Services 7. If your government provided no social services to the less fortunate but charged much less tax than now, do you believe that people would still help the less fortunate with their own time and money? Transportation 8. Do you believe in privatized toll roads (with respect to people who only use public transportation)? 9. Do you believe in privatizing public transportation (with respect to people who only use private transportation)? Education 10. Do you believe in privatized education as a solution to the problems associated with public education systems? Justice (Some ideas from David Friedman) The free market could potentially have the capacity to provide a more efficient and effective degree of justice through the ability to shop around for rights enforcement agencies which would have associations with private arbitration agencies (courts) to settle conflicts. (His ideas are heavily summarized here but you get the point). 11. Do you believe that a free market has the capacity to one day provide a more efficient and effective level of justice than systems run by governments? SECTION 3 – HUMAN NATURE 12. Do you believe that people can be trusted to spend their money wisely (i.e. to benefit society) or is taxation a necessary evil? SECTION 4 – OPTING OUT 13. Do you believe in the idea of opting out of government taxes and services through gradually providing more services available through the free market?
