Here are the results of the first meeting tonight. First of all, thank you to Kayla and Emily for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet together with me to get this Guild foundational work begun. I think we got off to a VERY good beginning! What follows is the beginning of our proposal for recognition by TE Dunkr and Oonaugh. Please note, this is a *proposal* and I hope to get constructive feedback on any and all parts. I will plan on attending Fighter Practice Wednesday evening for any who would be willing to sit down with me and help polish what has been done and/or hammer out more of what still needs to be done. Thank you to one and all! Barony of Loch Salann Herbalist & Apothecary Guild Proposal Mission Statement: The purpose of the Loch Salann Herbalist and Apothecary Guild is to arouse interest and spread knowledge through discussions, classes, and hands-on experience. The Guild hopes to act as a common ground for those of all degrees of mastery within the subject areas. The Guild will serve as a conduit for herbalists and apothecaries in the Barony to communicate with and learn from each other, and to disseminate knowledge about medieval herbalism and apothecary practices. The medieval cultivation and applications of herbs as culinary, cosmetic and medicinal agents as well as dyes are among the areas explored by the Guild. Membership & Meetings: Membership in the Guild may be obtained by showing interest in and becoming involved with promoting medieval herbalism within the Barony of Loch Salann. Interested individuals need only express their desire to join the Guild and submit their contact information to the Guild. Members are encouraged to grow and share their knowledge not only within the Guild, but also within the Barony, Kingdom and Known World at large. Members may contribute to this cause by performing activities such as teaching classes, entering Arts & Sciences competitions, hosting herb walks and informational herbal teas and demonstrating period herbalism at events. These demonstrations of period herbalism may include such things as the giving of herbal largesse items or performing ceremonial handwashings. Informal meetings, functions, and classes may be scheduled at any member’s discretion. DISCLAIMER: Membership nor rank within the Guild does not imply qualification for the practical application of herbs for medicinal purposes or otherwise. Any actual practice of herbalism, including any inspired by the Guild, is at the sole risk of the practitioner. Nothing taught within the Guild carries the approval of the FDA or any other governmental regulatory organization. Please verify any health or safety information on herbal practices with other sources and/or a qualified health professional. In the event of a medical emergency, please seek immediate help at your nearest hospital. Ranks: Guild members who are interested in recognition may progress through recognized levels of experience within the Guild. Participation in the ranking system is on a voluntary basis. Rank in the Guild is not a requirement for membership or teaching classes nor does it carry any precedence. Higher ranks may be attained by demonstrating knowledge of period (prior to 1600) herbalism and apothecary practice in the following categories: · Techniques for cultivation of herbs · Culinary uses for herbs – to include spices and wild plants · Medicinal uses for herbs · Cosmetic uses for herbs · Use of herbs for dyeing fabric Ranks are to be determined. Some potential levels might include, but are not limited to: Novice (having a desire to learn, just beginning on the path to knowledge and wisdom), Apprentice (actual medieval term for one beginning to learn the apothecary trade), Journeyman (actual medieval term for one who has demonstrated growing knowledge of the apothecary trade), Strewer (demonstrated a solid beginning knowledge of cultivation, cosmetic and/or dye uses of herbs), Kitchener (demonstrated a good knowledge of culinary uses of herbs), Sage (having demonstrated extensive knowledge in three or four areas listed above), Grand Master (having demonstrated extensive knowledge in all of the areas listed above) Educational Requirements: To be determined Officers: To be determined
