Here are the solutions TAMV Presented: Standing Committee on Community Violence: In Harrisburg we need elected officials talking about this issue on an ongoing basis. People are dying; families are being left father and mother less. Murders are going unsolved and families left with no answers. TAMV is asking for a permanent committee to discuss legislation pertain to community violence. Gun Laws: Our representatives (for the Mon Valley) have not taken a stance on gun laws and have voted no to imperative gun legislation. For example, they just recently voted yes to HB 2011 which takes the power away from local municipalities to pass their own gun laws. Funding/Mon Valley Task Force: A creation of task force of ALL Mon Valley police to be proactive around community violence. More specifically, a lot of the homicides are connected. The taskforce can consist officers who communicate daily regarding arrest; warrants; witnesses etc. al. Reviewing Witness Protection Program: The program is designed to keep witnesses safe. There have been various situations where witness’s names were releases (recent situation in Duquesne) by media, or through discovery files. You can’t expect someone to speak up if they have a valid fear of being shot themselves. TAMV is calling for an open review of this program to assure that people are kept safe.
