Here are the tasting notes for the wines chosen for the dinner being held at The Dish on Wednesday June 4 at 7:00pm! Efeste - Evergreen Riesling 2012 This Riesling has an unbelievable sense of balance, opening up with white peach, honeysuckle and a beautiful lift from deeper mineral/slate notes. It passes across the palate with wonderful acidity and texture, finishing with a lovely attack of granny smith apple, mandarin orange, and persimmon. If you like Thai food, then this wine is for you!” EFeste – Sauvage, Sauvignon Blanc 2012 Pale straw yellow with a hint of green, the nose is beautifully pungent and varietally intense giving way to heaps of vanilla accented passion fruit, freshly cut lemongrass, mango and tangerine up front. There is also wet gravel and a touch of oak to balance the fruit. Bright and textural – the best of both worlds – great weight and mouthwatering acidity carries the fruit from entry to finish, which is pleasant and persistent. I’m loving this wine right now, and looking forward to where it will go with a bit of bottle age. EFeste – Big Papa, Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Deep purple in color with a ruby red hue, this wine is big and ripe. Aromas of dark cherry liqueur, black currant paste, vanilla cream, espresso bean and cedar meet raspberry coulis, oregano and toasted sour dough bread. Evenly weighted, broad and structured, the palate offers dark fruits, black licorice and spice flavors. Full-bodied, well-knit tannins and bright acidity make this one of the best Big Papas yet! Efeste - Jolie Bouche, Syrah 2010 It begins beautifully with minerals, black cherry, and a slightly earthy tomato leaf note (like a tomato plant on a hot summer day near an herb garden with fennel plants going to seed). The texture of the wine is elegant and focused on the attention-grabbing-pop of ripe blackberry and plum with a lingering floral finish. We make this wine with indigenous yeast and malolactic cultures; showcasing the fruit’s unique location and the particular vintage. Efeste – Final-Final, Cabernet Sauvignon (59%) Syrah (41%) Blend 2011 With a deep, saturated and almost opaque purple core and a dark ruby-red rim, the 2011 Final Final displays perfumed aromas of rich cassis, blueberry compote, black toast and eucalyptus. Cigar box, dates, licorice spice, olive tapenade, and mint add complexity as nuances. Stylish and inviting, yet a structured palate highlights flavors of vanilla cream accented blackberries, black licorice and toasty oak. The finish is clean and pretty; should lengthen with time in bottle and/or decanting.
