Here are the tipping points for me first going vego and then later - TopicsExpress

Here are the tipping points for me first going vego and then later going vegan. As I mentioned in another post the other day, my diet and lifestyle were heavily carnivorous before I went vego about 10yrs back. Pies and 500g stakes for breaky was normal. Pies for lunch were normal. Chicken and fish for dinner was normal. Excluding having cereal for breakfast meat was in every single meal. What changed? I had several small moments in the month or so leading up to the final decision. But it happened on a spiritual retreat out at Uluru. Up until that point I hadnt had much contact with vegetarians and none with vegans. We were eating vegetarian while out there which I thought was cool (peeps told me it was good to do when doing so much meditation and healing work). But it was somewhere on day 4 after an amazing mediation that night. The meditation had blown me away, the connection I felt with everything was sooo surreal. I had never felt such a strong connection. While sitting after the meditation I noticed some lizards walking around and some birds flying in and around the trees. Then an ant crawled up onto my toe and I went to flick it off, but instead just watched it. As I sat for some time I realised I couldnt harm this little ant and yet I was paying people to kill other animals for me to eat. I wondered if I was stuck on killing or even hurting an ant then would I kill an animal for food? I realised if I could live for 4 days with no meat than I could live for much longer. That was it simple, decided then and there I would be a vegetarian. Vegan was different, I procrastinated on this choice for a few yrs as I was a biggggg dairy addict. What I should have done was jumped on YouTube and got educated.... That would have changed me super quick.. But the tipping point for me was when I was getting my personal trainers certificate. At the time I had been training for about a yr or so to show people that you could put on muscle without eating meat..... We got to the day of nutrition.... Everything was cool and interesting. Then we got to what he called different diet fads as we are flicking through and discussing them we got to the pure vegetarian and he was like and these guys are the unhealthiest, cant be athletes and cant put on muscle mass...... I put my hand up and said I am and have put on mass He asked the normal where do you get your protein I said food?.... Lol he asked if I ate eggs and replied 2-3 a fortnight. He said thats why you look so healthy! I said what you mean those eggs were sustaining my life?????? He said yep, if you werent eating them you would be sick and tired..... I said utter rubbish and left it at that. Within the next 5 mins I decided to prove him wrong and I committed to going vegan as soon as I got back from the holiday I was about to go on.
