Here are two stars (and he is also the COMPOSER) of the oratorio Mitch and I saw at Avery Fisher Hall the other night. (I fell in love with her when I saw her in the revival of Youre a Good Man Charlie Brown, where she played Sally. It turns out he wrote three new songs for the revival, including My New Philosophy for her.) I absolutely love her. He was a revelation. Reviewing the Milk oratorio, the other night, the Wall Street Journal reviewer wrote, I’m not exaggerating when I say these songs are some of the best original music I’ve heard on a Broadway stage in years. Certainly the excellent acoustics and powerful, 120-member-strong chorus only added to the emotional force of these numbers. Even so, both lyrically and melodically, they really hit hard. I completely agree. I am in awe of anyone who can write music, but this guy is a genius, AND he can sing. And Kristin Chenoweth I can watch reading the phone book. Magnificent.
