Here at Hand in Paw, all our dogs are special, but some are just extra special because they overcome so much. Our Finn Lake is one such case. Finn came to us from SEAACA shelter, a shelter with an extremely high euthanasia rate. The shelter really wanted to send him on a transport to Santa Fe, where they have a great no kill shelter; however, Finn was so terrified of his surroundings and the people at the shelter, that he didnt pass the test. On top of that, he started showing signs of kennel cough, and had a bad case of ear mites. This shelter is so overwhelmed with animals, that they euthanize at the first sign of illness. We got Finn out of there, and he was indeed very frightened. It took us days before we could pet him, and he would often cower and shake in the corner. Once we were able to pet him, we noticed a large puncture wound in his abdomen that required immediate surgery. This most likely occurred on the streets as a stray, and he is lucky he did not die of infection. Poor Finn was most likely severely abused and neglected, only knowing a life outdoors, and receiving zero kindness from humans. But Finn started coming around, and within a few weeks, he wore a smile on his adorable face, and he adored his doggy and kitty friends at Hand in Paw. He also became a champion cuddler, and would wake us up with the sweetest of kisses on our faces. Finn knew he was finally safe, and he could enjoy life. He carried a little stuffed animal shrimp everywhere he went, and enjoyed all the love and attention he was receiving. A perfect little companion who was only missing one thing: a forever home with a family who would continue to give him the patience and nurturing he deserved. That family came along last weekend, and we could not be more thrilled or wish for a better family for our Finny Boy. He has 2 doggy brothers now, Nelson and Frank, who he loves so much! Thank you, Wendy, for giving Finn the absolute best! We are so grateful and overcome with emotion! He is a proud, confident, loving boy now, and will only continue to flourish in your care!!
