Here at Hoosac, tradition, innovation and Yankee frugality have always worked in concert to provide our students with educational opportunities and experiences that are often not available anywhere else. This trimester I am teaching a class that fits this unique classification; Fly Fishing. While I am aware of a number of colleges offering this course, I am not aware of many high schools doing the same. Fly Fishing is so much more than a sport; it is a connection with nature that requires concentration, patience and dedication. A fly fisherman needs to be aware of the insects that are hatching, the temperature of the water, the fish that are biting, the speed of the current and many other details to be successful. It truly is not just a sport, but an art. It is also a very equipment specific endeavor, an expensive equipment specific endeavor. In order to make this class sustainable and one that many future Hoosac students can enjoy I am asking all fellow fly fishermen/women out there to consider donating any gear that you have that is simply sitting in a closet or garage and unlikely to be used again, to the Hoosac Halcyons. You may, also, feel free to donate any new gear. The Hoosac Halcyons is a group of intrepid young students who will benefit from anything that you may wish to send their way. Be it waders, leaders, nippers, vests, fly rods, reels, creels, flies, or anything fly fishing related. All items will be inventoried and will be forever part of the Halcyon program. Your donation will earn you an honorary membership in this rarefied group of patient, knowledgeable and traditional fisherman/women, and updates on progress of the program. You will also receive information and thank you notes directly from the students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the program or Hoosac in general. Donations can be mailed to: Hoosac School 14 Pine Valley Road P.O. Box 9 Hoosick, NY 12089 518-686-7331 Sincerely, Dean S. Foster Headmaster 518 248 4568 cell 518 686 73331 office hoosac.org
