Here for a Reason “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you…. Pray to the Lord for it.” Jeremiah 29:7 You aren’t where you are by accident; you are there by God’s design. Your country, your city, your family, your job or school—God put you there, and He never does anything with- out a reason. You are where you are by God’s sovereign design, and He wants to use you right where you are. Jeremiah and his fellow countrymen had every reason not to seek the peace and prosperity of the places where they were living. They were no longer in their homeland; a vicious enemy had conquered their nation and forcibly taken them away into exile. Why help any enemy prosper there? And yet that is what God ordered them to do. This world is not our final home; because of what Christ has done for us we have “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4 NIV). But in the meantime God calls us to be instruments of His love and justice in an unbelieving world. Ask God to use you for His glory right where He has placed you. --Billy Graham
