Here goes another fun list that will make you want to turn on the Blue Ray, DVD or Netflix and crank them up. The 10 best sports movies in history of film. 10- Pride of the Yankees- The Lou Gehrig story. Gary Cooper portrays the greatest 1st baseman who ever played. This film shows a lighter side to the shy and humble baseball legend and brings you to tears during the legendary speech that was the end of Gehrigs career. Drs didnt know what ALS was now the disease bares his name Lou Gehrigs disease. However, Gehrig was much more than ALS he was one of the great human beings who ever played baseball. Get out the tissues if youre going to watch this one. 9- For love of the game- When a pitcher is in the zone pitching a perfect game. Dont talk to him! Kevin Costner plays Billy Chapel a Greg Maddux like pitcher whos reached 40 yrs old and in the final a career destined for the hall of fame he throws his masterpiece in his final game. This is also a love story and much of the film is Chapels memories of the love of his life and the realization of how import she is to his life. 8- Sandlot- when a 11 year old boy wants to make friends he learns the game of baseball and risks it all by playing a game with his Step Dads autographed Babe Ruth Baseball. When the ball is hit over the fence in to the yard of a legendary evil dog and his owner the real fun begins. Benny The Jet Rodriguez the fastest and most talented kid in the neighborhood must play pickle with the Beast and 120lb Mastif. After the pickle is won they find the beast is actually a sweet heart and his owner is a former pro ball player. James Earl Jones portrays the legendary ball player in a film that everyone should have...... 7- A League of their own- This film was based on a true story of the womens baseball league that took place for 11 seasons. Upstarted in WW2. This Film took Tom Hanks from A list star to A+ Platinum list star. Portraying Jimmy Dugan which no doubt is a spin off of former Cubs Star and legendary drunk Hack Wilson. This film changed the way people looked at baseball comedy and Tom Hanks career forever. 6- Major League- Who doesnt root for the under dog? This was true baseball fun. The lowly Indians pig boss of an owner Rachel Phelps wants to move the team to Miami so she hires the most lack luster bunch of ball players and coaches she could find. Has beens and never will bes. But she didnt count on chemistry bringing their talent together. Charlie Sheen plays Ricky the Wild Thing Vaughn and Bob Ueker plays Harry Doyle in this amazing baseball comedy. 5- Bull Durham- Minor league baseball legend Crash Davis is in his 30s and in a cross roads in his career. This journeyman is employed to save the career of a space cadet pitcher named Nuke. I think resemble Bill Lee for red Sox pitcher. Davis works with Nuke LaLoushe and preps him for the big leagues and super stardom. But its the love affair with the game of baseball that keeps Davis coming back. Not the preparation of his adolescent pupil..... 4- Field of Dreams- Maybe the best baseball film ever made. This was the changing of the tides for baseball folklore. Kevin Costner plays Ray Kinsella a farmer who plows under is corn field his major crop to build a baseball field to bring back his fathers hero Shoeless Joe Jackson and the other 7 White Sox players who were banned for life. But little did he know it wasnt built for Shoeless Joe. It was built for John Kinsella, Rays father who he lost touch with as an adolescent teen. The only thing that offends me about this film is Joe Jackson was right handed in the picture. He was a left handed hitter in real life. 4- Rudy- Yes this is Notre Dame legend. Rudy Dan Rudiger a tiny lineman who had one dream to play football for Notre Dame. He fought and fought and fought his way to play till finally winning the respect of his All American team mates who are willing to sit so he can play just one game. Touch your heart and your soul. Sean Astin was sorely over looked by the academy as was Charles S Dutton for their roles in this film. Yes 2 number 4s. but I did it right..... 3- Hoosiers- Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper give their best performances of their careers in the same film. Indiana Basketball is king. The new Hickory coach plays by his own rules forming a team of players willing to play by them. But the true hero is Jimmy Chipwood a player whos jump shot rivals that of Larry Bird. These under dogs go all the way to the High School state championships, wher the rim is 10 feet high the same level it is in their gym. 2- Remember the Titans- Denzel Washington steals the show in this amazing picture based on high school football and desegregation. In Alexandria Virginia the schools are desegregated and its football team must come together and unite. We get to see the portrayal of players and coaches setting aside their differences for perfection. Hayden Penittire the star of Heros makes her film debut as Coach Yost tempermental daughter. 1- Rocky- 1976 best picture. It spawned 5 sequels and the legend of going the distance. Slyvester Stallone plays Rocky Balboa a mob muscle in Philadelphia who is failing as a boxer. Till Champion Apollo Creed play a publicity stunt and lures Balboa and 100-1 underdog in the ring. Yet Balboa would go 15 rounds. The distance against the best fighter in the world. Though Creed won the fight Balboa won the world respect and more importantly the heart of the woman he loves. These is a lot to be said about going the distance.......
