Here in Croatia, we live in a country broken by religious strife, - TopicsExpress

Here in Croatia, we live in a country broken by religious strife, recovering from a religious-based war that tore our country and our region apart for many years. Even today, with the wars over, religious groups still demean and threaten each other almost daily, and no one can be quite sure when tensions might boil over into violence. So many children around the world are indoctrinated into religion before they have developed the ability to think critically. Others grow up in secular families that want to provide their children with secular and humanist values, but cannot find resources to support those values. Children that are informed and prepared have a better understanding of the world they live in and how to function successfully in it. They have better self-confidence and are sure in their identities. Informed children grow up to be self-confident people. The Center for Civil Courage, a humanist group based in Croatia and an AAI Affiliate Group, is working to publish a book, Humanism for Children, to help fill that need. The book introduces children to the world of humanistic thought in a child-friendly manner. The aim of this book is to serve as a means of strengthening all irreligious families – apart from its atheistic-agnostic, secular and humanistic values, it also promotes the equally important worldviews of feminist and humanist values. The book is divided into two parts. The first part introduces children to scientific and social ideas and explains what the society in which children presently live is about. It also discusses the values that many other families cherish which often conflict or deny that reality. Thus the children are presented with a realistic picture, and through valid arguments the worldview of their parents is strengthened. The second part of the book contains ten lessons for a better and just life based on humanistic values. Our goal is to publish the book in the Croatian and Bosnian, but also in English and German languages. We also want to make our books available to the various African schools that AAI supports. We need to raise €5,000 by June 15 to successfully kick off our project. Please support our Kickstarter campaign and help us bring this book to atheist and humanist families across Europe and elsewhere.
