Here is Aidan, my remarkable agility teammate and Adog companion, - TopicsExpress

Here is Aidan, my remarkable agility teammate and Adog companion, with a word of warning: low dose is ESSENTIAL for quality of life! Due to an unrelated injury, Aidan was taking prednisone as an anti-inflammatory. He weighs 30 lbs, and was taking 7.5mg of pred twice daily. Over the period of several months we lowered his pred to a more physiologic level. He has since healed, but I was being a weeny. Instead of continuing to lower the dose, we stayed at 1mg once daily. I just couldnt bring myself to lower the dose any further. Or maybe that was me being lazy. I was ignoring the hair falling out in clumps. He wasnt PU/PD so what did I care? But he was being a little overly food motivated. He was crawling onto the dish washer and even the laundry dryer looking for stray cookies. Still willing to ignore that. But yesterday my level headed, well trained, smart, biddable sweet jovial teammate decided he didnt like Doug the Border collies somewhat reactive behavior and jumped him, snarling, and removing bits of BC fuzz. Doug wasnt the least bit abashed, so Aidan tried to body slam him and really went for the jugular. WELL!!! We are starting the next phase of pred reduction; its likely Aidans CORRECT dose will be under 0.5mg daily!! Should have my sweet dog back again in a few weeks. Sigh. Bad mommy.
