Here is Chief Kenneth W Bohn standing next to a Franklin Police Department 2004 Ford Crown Vic Police lnterceptor black and white marked Patrol Bureau Squad parked in front of the City Of Franklin Law Enforcement Center on his retirement day. The area behind the State of Wisconsin flag is the Franklin, Wisconsin Municipal Court {immediately behind the court is the City Jail}. Immediately behind the squad are the main doors leading to the lobby and service counter for both police and municipal court. To the left is access to municipal court, the City Prosecutor, Municipal Judge, Jail and Police Patrol Offices. To the right is access to Command Staff Offices, Community Policing, Chaplin, Detective Bureau, Police Patrol Offices, Physical Fitness Area, Training Rooms, and Zone D Emergency Government The lower level of this facility houses the Garage for Police Vehicles, Indoor Firearm Training Center {with ability to take upto 50 cal}, Evidence Processing and Storage Center, and Traffic Bureau. I knew this facility oh so well, because just one month after being hired, I was instructed by the Mayor at that time the City needed a new facility. I served as chairman of the Police Facility Needs Study Committee, Design Committee, Approval Committee and then the Project Manager from start to finish on this $9.6 million project that we proudly brought in under budget by working hard and closely with the citizens, elected officials, other staff members and people hired to design and build this project. YES, I still have pride in this project and this agency. While this building project was going on, we worked to almost double the size of the staff and update all of the other outdated and other failing or completely failed equipment. So, YES, YES, YES, seeing where the Franklin Police Department was the day I took command on July 7, 1997 and where WE took it by the time I retired on June 14, 2004, I AM DAMN PROUD OF WHAT WE ACCOMPLISHED BY ROLLING UP OUR SLEEVES!!!!!! Burning The Midnight Oil; Wearing Out Several Pairs of Sunglasses; Stepping On Quite A Few Toes; Hurting Some Feelings; Building Some Peoples Pride; Putting In A Whole Lot of Hours WE Didnt Get Paid For; Building Some New Friendships; Making Some New Enemies; Doing Things That Had To Be Done No Matter How Hard It Hurt, Whether Others Understood or Not; Trying to Be Considerate of Everyone While Maintaining Standards For All {saying yes when youd like to say no, and no when youd like to say yes, but couldnt}; Fought Battles That Sometimes You Privately Wondered Why, But Know You Had to For The Good of The Agency; Protecting Employees who didnt even appreciate {or maybe didnt even know} all the heat you were taking for him or her {because they just didnt understand why it couldnt be the way the wanted; Being in the middle at times fighting both an employee and politicians because they were both at opposite extremes, and if the Inspector and I didnt fight them both and just gave up, it would have been the employee who got screwed, but it would have set the presedent for all other employees being screwed too. To get from Franklin Police Department pre-1997 to June 14, 2004 or present day................everything was a fight or challenge, and we got tired and exhausted many a time, and many a time it was easy to feel unappreciated; but anytime we did, we walked around and looked at what a great agency and what excellent people Franklin Police Department had become and we knew it was all worth it. You guys and gals are the best and have some of the best conditions to work in. Thanks for all your hard and dedicated work, you are what makes it all worth it. Thanks again.
