Here is Cody, he came in today for his booster and to have his leg checked out, as he had a tick removed from it a little while ago and his owner noticed a swelling where the tick had been. Ticks are part of the arachnid family and live off of their hosts by feeding from their blood. They start off very small when they first attach, then after 5-7 days as they become full they become much bigger before they eventually drop off. Ticks are harmful to our pets as they can spread diseases such as Lyme disease and cause infection. It is always best to prevent your pet from becoming bitten with treatment, but if you do find a tick its best to call the surgery for advice on how to remove it as parts of the tick can break off and remain in the skin if removed incorrectly. Codys swelling was normal, as it is common for the site of where the tick attaches to become inflamed. Our vet James advised it would start to go down in the next few days :) Sent from my iPhone
