Here is Robbie Nicoll, one of the candidates for North Angus and Mearns, he is also the current MSYP for that constituency. His facebook page is: Robbie Nicoll MSYP Twitter: @Robbie_Nicoll Good luck! Here is his manifesto Manifesto – Robbie Nicoll – Angus North and Mearns As a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament for the past two years, I have been involved in the change that is sweeping politics. The Independence Referendum saw Scottish politics changed forever and I’m glad to say I was part of that. Young people are now more aware of issues affecting them and are taking a more active interest in having their voices heard. The Scottish Youth Parliament has a very important responsibility to ensure we amplify those voices. 200 elected young people pushing forward the views of young people has massive potential and it is that potential that needs to be at the forefront for the next two years. I hope that that potential will affect many issues in my local area – inequalities for young people in employment is the area that I would most like to focus on. The Living Wage is currently at £7.65 and that is a minimum I would like to see paid to every single young person across Scotland. The average child poverty rate for Angus North and Mearns is 17.5% and two thirds of the towns within the area have foodbanks – these are appalling statistics and I will champion the Living Wage for every single young person as well as more employment and training opportunities within the workplace to ensure they are combatted. Over the past two years I have been involved at every stage of ensuring your voices are heard by both the Scottish Youth Parliament and the three Parliaments that also represent us. I’ve consulted with a range of politicians, including Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon, on a variety of issues like mental health, the legacy of the Commonwealth Games and assisted suicide. However, the best example of me implementing positive change coming from you was my work on PSE. I presented a Member’s Motion on Improving PSE as head of the “PSE Coalition” and then spoke for it as the National Campaign for 2014/15. Although it was not chosen as a National Campaign, the PSE Coalition did convince a high number of MSYPs to vote for it and I have brought it forward to many MSPs who are interested in working to introduce guidelines so every young person gets the same quality of real life skills taught in PSE. If you want a continuation of the change that is sweeping Scottish politics to affect this area, and if you want Angus North and Mearns to continue to have successful representation at every level of politics, I hope you will consider me for that honour. ~B
