Here is a controversial issue for us all. The Poppy. I wear a white poppy. I do respect those who fight to protect us and sacrifice their lives and those who died in the World Wars. However, I feel that we should remember all and not just those who died at war. I think in particular about John MacLean. He went to prison and was tortured and force-fed and all because he was a conscientious objector, campaigner and advocate of free speech. In wartime, Britain was more or less totalitarian, John MacLean died young because of this treatment and it really shows that one of the greatest battles fought was not on the western front, but in the hills, the glens and on the Clydeside in the name of social justice. I want to respect them all. Although this is controversial what I am about to say and no doubt it will be seen as disrespectful and I will be shouted down by friend and foe alike I feel that deaths at war are just legalised murder. Why should our people die for the interests of 650 MPs who sit on their piles of money and look for the next way to keep their jobs? Personally, I see no need for war. We are taught at a young age that violence isnt the answer so why is it seen as such? Thanks for reading and I hope it wasnt too radical for you all! :) Lets get our independence and be a world leader in peace. ~B cherishonline.co.uk/images/peace/white_poppy.jpg
