Here is a cool old Bob Seger album cut called Down Home. A couple interesting things--Bassist, Dan Honaker, told me that on his way to the recording studio the day they cut this tune, he realized that he forgot to bring his Fender Precision bass with him! He stopped at a local music store to borrow a bass, and all they could loan him was a short scale, no-name bass. Dan took it anyway. When he played it on this tune, he discovered that the short scale let him play more complex and faster runs more fluidly, and the cheap pickups on the bass had no high end, which he liked for a change, because it sounded almost like an upright acoustic bass. Another interesting note is that the harmonica on this track was played by Ann Arbors Mike Erlewine, who played in a local group called The Prime Movers, that at one time, featured a young Iggy Pop on drums! Erlewine tried to convince Seger to change the key of this song to something other than F#, as that key is almost impossible to blow blues harp on! Stubborn Bob didnt think the tune sounded worth a damn in any other key and refused to change keys, so Mike had to bend and twist the harmonica notes to try to make em fit!!! Dig Segers hard-nosed rhythm guitar part on this tune also!!! youtu.be/y3v17P-8xsk
