Here is a glimpse into my mind. Attached is an Excel 2007 - TopicsExpress

Here is a glimpse into my mind. Attached is an Excel 2007 spreadsheet which I use to help plan, track, and record my 12 Day Big Year. This is actually a stripped down template with some data to show how it works. (Angel, I fixed a couple bugs in the sheet I sent to you.) When running one of my days, I keep eBird checklists, via BirdLog, for every stop. I also keep a running list for species seen in between stops. At the end of the day, I Email the day list to myself. From this, I cut and paste the list to my spreadsheet. The Day 3 list is in the template to show how it looks. Steps: 1) Email yourself your day list - If you do this the next day, you will have to generate a trip list which only includes checklists from your Day. NOTE: If you generate a list of species on your own, you can skip this step and paste the list as in Step 2. Your species names must exactly match those in the spreadsheet for this to work. 2) Go to cell A2 of the Calculator tab (right under Raw List). Copy and Paste the list here. The formulas in Column D (Name) will extract the species name from the text. NOTE: You may need to copy the formula into more rows if you exceed the number of rows containing the formula. 3) Copy the calculated list and Paste Values to the appropriate column in the Raw Data tab. At the bottom of the species list will appear the total number of species for the day. If you included any non-ABA species, they will simply be excluded. No need to delete them yourself. NOTE: You must use Paste Values, not just a simple paste. If you use a simple paste, it will paste the formulas, which will not work. 4) Check your list for omissions or accidental inclusions. NOTE: If you find omissions, you need to go back to the appropriate column in Raw Data and add the missing species. If you are using your own list, you may need to correct the spelling to match those in the spreadsheet. 5) Go to the RESULTS tab and type the month name at the top (using the three letter abbreviation.) This will generate a list of new species added that month. From here you can quickly update the online spreadsheet. The list on the template is in the same order as Elliots spreadsheet. NOTE: The list is not exactly the same, so dont try to Copy and Paste from the template into the online spreadsheet. The last two tabs show a little of how I design and plan a route. I used a similar technique when running dozens of Big Days in 2003 and 2004.
