Here is a list of upcoming workshops that FCS Extension has going on at the Garrard County Extension Office. Everybody is welcome. Yarn Club Next meeting: Thursday, March 27, 1:30 pm at the Extension Office. Come join other fiber enthusiasts as we start the next kitting project and finish up past projects such as cabled scarf, socks and summer sweater. Don’t forget to bring finished projects to have an official “Show and Tell Session” Our last project—a simple cabled Scarf has been fun to knit and several have finished. All needle crafters are welcome! Crochet—needlepoint—weave—etc.. Come join people that have the same love of yarn you do! Contact the Extension office for more information at 792-3026. Swedish Weave a Spring Towel In keeping with our love of all things yarn and fiber; how about learning Swedish Weaving as we create a beautiful spring design on Huck toweling? Cost is $6.00. You bring a pair of thread scissors, but all other supplies are furnished. This would make a great ‘Mom and Me’ project to learn together. Workshop will be Thursday, March 27, 6:30 pm at the Extension Office. Deadline for signing up is Mar 21. Register for class by calling the office at 792-3026. This ensures we have enough supplies. Floral Spring Table Runner Get out of the Winter doldrums by sewing up a pretty floral table runner just right for spring. And don’t worry about the cutting—kits will be provided for the top, backing and binding. This workshop will be Friday, March 28, 10:00 am at the Extension Office. Deadline for signing up is Mar 21. Cost is $15.00. Bring sewing machine and sewing supplies, rotary cutter and if you want to start quilting—bring your preference of quilt batting (5’ x 2’ piece) Must register to ensure enough kits. Basket Making Workshop Never too late to learn how to make your own basket—this will be a simple market basket with some color added and a handle. Workshop will be on Monday, March 31, 6:00 pm at the Extension Office. The Deadline for sign up is Mar 21. Cost is $12.00 for Non-homemaker members. $10.00 for Garrard Homemaker members. Limited space. Sign up soon by calling the Extension Office and sending in your money. 792-3026. Cooking Classes Learning how to prepare and then getting in the habit of food preparation and keeping good foods in the cupboards or refrigerator in order to make healthier choices for family meals gets easier with practice. The Garrard County Extension FCS Extension Agent offers monthly cooking classes on the first Monday of the month to learn more about healthier eating and food preparation. This winter has played havoc on scheduling cooking classes, but hopefully we are out of cancellation weather! The next cooking classes will be on Monday, April 7, noon and 6:00 pm at the Garrard County Extension Office. This month’s recipe topics will be Quick Calzones & other Quick Hot Sandwiches. Cooking Classes are free and open everybody—we do want you to register in order to have enough materials and food supplies. Call 792-3026 to register or for more details.
