Here is a little exercise in interpreting genealogical evidence - TopicsExpress

Here is a little exercise in interpreting genealogical evidence from my own family tree. First the facts and then the question to be resolved and the conclusion to be reached based upon the facts: Frederick GEISELMAN was born 28 Sept. 1761 and died 18 Oct. 1845 in York County Pennsylvania. He is buried in Friedensaals Churchyard York County. Frederick GEISELMAN is the son of Johann Michael GEISELMAN and wife Maria Wilhelmina FRINCH/FRENCH, immigrants from Germany. Frederick GEISELMAN married Magdalena Eva PHEANUS/FENIS/VENUS on 4 May 1786. She was born 11 June 1767. She is the daughter of Georg Philip PHAENUS/FENIS/VENUS and his 3rd wife Anna Elizabeth [--?--]. My 3rd great-grandfather John Jacob GEISELMAN was born 3 May 1787 and was bapt. at Friedensaal. Jacobs baptismal record shows the sponsors to be: Peter LEIST and Elizabeth, the grandparents. All of the above information comes from the GEISELMAN family file at York County Heritage Trust, York County marriage records, and Friedensaal Lutheran Church records. Peter LEISS had a German will probated 21 Oct. 1812 (Shrewsbury Twp.) and the co-executors are: Elizabeth LEISS and F. GEISELMAN. [I do not have a copy of this will.] Philip VENUS died intestate and on 22 May 1777 his estate was administered by: Elizabeth VENUS and Conrad SCHWARTZ. Conrad and Dorothea SWARTZ were sponsors at the baptism of the youngest daughter (Dorothea) of Philip VENUS and 3rd wife Elizabeth. I do not know if or how they are related to the VENUS family. Given the above facts: how would you conclude that Peter LEIST and wife Elizabeth are the grandparents of John Jacob GEISELMAN? [I believe there is only one possible correct answer but lets see how creative you all can get. :) ]
