Here is a little teaser for you from the upcoming novel "Deathbed & Breakfast". Edna abruptly turned and led them down a few steps into a cozy little parlor to the left where a small fire was crackling and sizzling in the corner fireplace. Facing the fireplace were two plush, tall chairs with a small table and crystal lamp set up between them. Underneath was a large circular rug that nearly covered the entire wooden floor of the room. The ornate lamp was turned on at its lowest setting and together with the firelight cast a mellow hue over the dark green walls which were covered in paintings. On either side of the fireplace was a framed window where the curtains had already been drawn closed for the night. A large painting almost the size of the fireplace itself, was mounted above the fireplace mantle. It was of a stately gentleman with wavy white hair, large sideburns and striking facial features. In fact, it wasn’t too hard to recognize that Edna reflected these same features. Underneath the painting was a small tag with some writing which they weren’t able to decipher from where they were standing. “Who is that?” Penny asked pausing to look at the painting. Mildred walked to her side and smiled softly. “That is Ozymandias Pookotz, dear,” she answered in her sweet little voice. “Our Great, Great Grandfather.” “He built this house in the 1800’s,” Edna picked up where Mildred left off. “He was one of the founders of Pleasant Lake years and years ago.” Edna had walked around the two chairs, and with great affection, she reached up and touched the base of the frame around the painting. “He established the Bed & Breakfast in 1862 and it has been a landmark of Pleasant Lake ever since,” Mildred added with tones of reverence in her voice. “Wow,” Penny said under her breath.
