Here is a painting Iris did in April 2013, Waterfall Bounce, 55cm x 75cm, watercolour and acrylics on watercolour paper. I had given her a range of new tools to try with her painting and she took to it so easily, before I knew it she was finding all sorts of items to use with her painting to create different marks. She used forks, sticks, cotton buds, cardboard, brushes, spray bottle, rollers and sponges. It gave me many opportunities to use speech therapy techniques with her as she painted and I have fond memories of her working on this piece. I had made some notes from this one while she was working on it in her homeschooling book and I had written about the new sounds she had made about the colours. Her painting has always been not only a way for Iris to express herself but a key for me to help her to communicate and interact.
