Here is a question posed to ALL of you. Over $200,000,000.00 was collected in the town of Fort Erie in the way of property taxes last four years. Where is that money going and why the need for a not for profit organization to lease the Kinsmen Pool from the TOFE, when all this revenue is being collected? I know in FACT, the TOFE was keeping the pool OPEN and yes it was in the process of being repaired as the needs arose back in 2009. I talked to my former ward one councillors, town staff past and present and they all said the pool was being used BUT not as frequently than in the past. Kids the last few years were still coming BUT not in the numbers like in previous years and/or decades. As you all well know, this whole town has less school aged kids and schools are closing and/or amalgamating. I have great instincts and have been involved in several community initiatives and feel STRONGLY that this one issue was NOT as it was presented and it was an election ploy by Stephen Passero and Paul Collard leading up to the 2010 municipal election. Collard volunteered for the Dash and Splash to raise awareness for the pool but also got himself recognized and elected councillor in ward6. When the council debate started about closing the pool in 2011, Collard made a statement that he doesnt support the pool because its not in his ward. Nice work Paul! NOT! Stephen later told me that Collard was looking to be recognized as an athlete and his quest being on the Fort Erie Sports Wall of Fame was his reason to join the Dash and Splash Committee. How revealing Paul. Stephen spent countless hours closing the pool with the help of the usual 4-3 voter bloc on town council and I feel STRONGLY that this same issue was supposed to be used as his springboard for the Mayors seat in this election. WE DO OT NEED AN AQUATICS CENTRE WE CANNOT AFFORD to maintain when they are less and less kids in town! We need the Kinsmen Pool repaired and/or replaced with the concerns of the taxpayers FIRST AND FOREMOST. Heck, even a simple little splash pad could have been installed just from the settlement figures from Stephen Passeros HARASSMENT CLAIM from another town staffer. HOW MUCH COULD IT BE??? $25,000? $50,000? $75,000? forterietimes.ca/2014/01/06/passero-fort-erie-needs-aquatic-facility
